The long-awaited trans-Tasman travel bubble has been announced, with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announcing that starting April 19, 2021, Australian visitors will be able to reach New Zealand without having to go through a Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) facility.
After the closing of New Zealand's borders in March 2020,
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) halted all off-shore Work Holiday Visa
applications. Working Holiday Visa schemes are available to young people of
specific countries and enable them to travel and work in New Zealand for up to
12 months (or 23 months for citizens of the UK or Canada). Some of the schemes
are ‘capped' to a certain number of visas each year, while others are
‘uncapped,' meaning there is no limit on how many visas can be issued.
INZ has announced that qualifying applicants in Australia
will be able to apply for a Working Holiday Visa under the uncapped schemes
once New Zealand enters the Quarantine-Free Travel Zone with Australia. The
Working Holiday Schemes are uncapped for Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United
Kingdom, United States of America, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan,
Canada, Denmark, Finland, France.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 (or 35 for
Canadian citizens) and citizens of one of the countries mentioned above to be
qualified for a Working Holiday Visa. Travelers to New Zealand should be
informed that the COVID-19 warning level system may change and that they should
be prepared for any potential disruptions. Applicants wishing to fly to New
Zealand must meet the following additional conditions in addition to applying
for and receiving a Working Holiday Visa:
- They must adhere to immigration regulations.
- They had to have been in Australia or New Zealand for at least 14 days.
- They must not have a positive COVID-19 test result or have written guidance from a health professional declaring that they are no longer contagious if they did test positive.
- They can't be waiting for the COVID-19 test results.
