Essential Information About Getting a Work Visa in New Zealand

Immigration New Zealand provides a variety of visas that will allow you to work in NZ. However, before applying, make sure you know which work visa would be appropriate for you. Each visa is broadly divided into two types: temporary & permanent and has its own set of requirements & application process. Some of the popular type of work visas are mentioned below.

New Zealand Work Visa

Post-study Work Visa:

After you finish your studies, you can work in NZ with this visa. If you have an acceptable qualification gained in NZ, you can apply for a Post-study Work Visa to work in NZ for up to three years. A Post-study Work Visa is valid for one, two, or three years, depending on the level of your qualification & allows you to work for any employer in NZ in almost any job. Your partner can also apply for an NZ work visa. If you have dependent children, they can study as domestic students.

Religious Worker Visa:

This visa is a way to get residency if you have at least two years of training/experience in religious work that you are being sponsored to undertake. You must however, have an offer of religious work from a religious organization, as well as their sponsorship to be granted an initial two years temporary work visa. If their offer of work & sponsorship continues, you can further apply for a two years NZ work visa & then a Resident visa after three years in NZ. Essential Skills Work Visa:

If you have a job offer from an NZ employer & the requisite credentials & experience to work in that job, you can apply for this visa. However, in most cases, before offering you the job, the employer would have conducted a labor market test to see whether any New Zealanders were willing to do the job.

Assume you've got a job offer in an occupation on one of the Essential Skills in Demand Lists & your qualifications & experience match. In that case, the employer won't need to do the labor market test & provide evidence of attempting to recruit New Zealanders.

Supplementary Seasonal Employer Work Visa:

People who are already in NZ on a Student or Visitor Visa may apply for a Work Visa to work in horticulture or viticulture industries for a limited time. You can only apply if there aren't enough New Zealanders left to do the job, & you can't include a partner or dependent children in your visa application.

Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa:

You can apply for this visa if you have a talent that is in demand by an NZ accredited employer & is searching for a way to live in NZ. You must be not more than 55 years old & have a work offer from an accredited employer in NZ with a base salary of at least $79,560 per year. The objective of this type of visa is to allow accredited employers to supplement their own NZ workforce in their core area of business activity.

Some terms & conditions are also applicable in all the above cases. To know more about all types of NZ work visas & pathways including assessment criteria, call at +64 9 379 0219 or email to contact@nzimmigration.info.
