Certain Changes Made to the Migration Exploitation Protection Work Visa

The New Zealand Government is implementing certain changes to the Migration Exploitation Work Visa. From October 2024, applicants will no longer be in a position to apply for a second MEPV. Individuals whose first MEPV expires on or before November 2024 will become eligible to apply for a second MEPV before October 2024.

The New Zealand Government is implementing certain changes to the Migration Exploitation Work Visa.

In addition, the definition of migration exploitation will be revised to be more effectively to address harmful and exploitative actions. Employment New Zealand will exclude some specific conditions that classify as migrant exploitation at the time of reviewing reports. They are lawful termination of employment, non-payment of final wages against company liquidation, and situations lacking true employment relationship.
